The Dakota Counselor follows Ethical Standards and School Counselor Professional Standards and Competencies as Outlined by the American School Counselor Association.

"The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) supports school counselors' efforts to help students focus on academic, career and social/emotional development so they achieve success in school and are prepared to lead fulfilling lives as responsible members of society." (ASCA, 2020)

The Dakota School Counseling Program operates under The ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors For Student Success to create a social emotional learning program for all K-5 Students.

Dakota Elementary School Counseling Program provides:

Whole Group Counseling Lessons

For all K-5 Students:
In-class lessons covering a variety of topics regarding social emotional learning
Twice a month
30 minutes in length

Small Group Counseling

Planned activities outside of the classroom to promote academic, career or personal/social development
Students selected based on data, parent, teacher, and/or counselor recommendation
Typically 6-8 meetings

Individual Counseling

Solution-Focused brief short term counseling
Available for all students
Based on student, teacher, guardian and/or counselor referral
